Terms of service

The terms on which this website is provided, and the boundary between information here and brokerage work performed for you.

Licensed U.S. customs brokerage. Customs broker of record; movement coordinated through vetted partners.

What these terms cover

These terms govern your use of this website, which is operated by Retro Customs Brokers, LLC. They are not the terms on which customs brokerage services are provided.

Brokerage work is performed under a separate written engagement, including a power of attorney and the terms and conditions of service that accompany it. Where anything on this site appears to conflict with that engagement, the engagement governs.

The information here is general

The guides, references and explanations published on this site describe how import requirements generally work. They are written to be accurate and useful, and they are not advice about your specific goods, your specific shipment or your specific circumstances.

Classification, origin, scope and regulatory pathway all turn on facts we cannot know from a web page. Do not treat anything here as a determination about your products. Ask, and we will give you an answer grounded in the actual facts.

This is not legal advice

Nothing on this site is legal advice and no attorney-client relationship arises from reading it or from contacting us.

Customs brokerage and legal representation are different things. Formal appeals, protests litigated on their merits, penalty proceedings and enforcement matters sit outside the scope of brokerage. Where a matter reaches that stage, qualified legal counsel is the right resource, and we will say so rather than working beyond our scope.

Requirements change

Tariff treatment, trade remedy coverage, agency requirements and enforcement practice all change, sometimes substantially and sometimes quickly. Pages here are written to remain true as long as possible, which is why they avoid quoting rates.

Even so, a page accurate when written may not describe the current position. Where something is a known moving target we say so on the page itself. Confirm anything you intend to rely on commercially.

Contacting us does not create an engagement

Sending an enquiry, requesting a quote or submitting a form does not by itself create a client relationship or oblige us to act.

An engagement begins when we have agreed to act, the necessary authority is in place, and both sides know what is being done. Until then, please do not rely on us to have taken action on a shipment.

Your responsibilities as importer

Where we act for you, you remain the importer of record unless expressly agreed otherwise. That role carries responsibility for the accuracy of the declaration, for duties and fees, and for retaining records.

We rely on the information and documentation you provide. Where that information is incomplete or inaccurate, the consequences follow the entry, and we cannot correct what we were not told.

Third-party services and links

This site may link to or embed services operated by others. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.

Cargo movement, warehousing and physical handling are performed by vetted partners rather than by us. We coordinate them; we do not perform them.

Intellectual property

The content of this site, including text, layout and graphics, belongs to us or is used with permission. You may read it, share links to it and quote from it with attribution.

Republishing substantial portions as your own, or reproducing the site's structure and content commercially, is not permitted without written agreement.

Limitation of liability

This site is provided as it is. We take care to keep it accurate but do not warrant that it is complete, current or uninterrupted.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on general information published here as though it were advice about your specific goods. This does not limit any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and it does not affect obligations under a signed engagement.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida and applicable federal law of the United States, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Retro Customs Brokers, LLC is established in Florida and its registered address appears at the foot of this page.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms. The date at the foot of this page shows when they were last changed, and continued use of the site after a revision indicates acceptance of it.
